As our in-office pharmacist, Shawna is responsible for ordering and mixing chemotherapeutic agents, maintaining the inventory of drugs, and assisting the nurses with patient education. Kari A. Brewer, MHS, PA-C
As a certified Physician’s Assistant, Kari supports our physician staff by seeing patients, prescribing medications as warranted, consulting with the doctors regarding treatment plans, and visiting patients in the hospital. Kari is a graduate of Duke University’s Physician Assistant training program, and has her Master of Health Sciences degree from University of Washington. |

Our nursing staff is an amazing group of caregivers. Jan works directly with our physicians, our PA-C, and patients who are here for office visits. She triages patient calls, consults with the medical staff on our patients’ behalf, and is the nurse who will likely return you call for non-chemotherapy related issues.
Our three Chemotherapy nurses are OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) certified. This certification is a result of extensive oncology-specific training, and the passing of the national examination qualifying them as specialists in oncology nursing. Should you have questions regarding your chemotherapy or treatment course, they are a knowledgeable and experienced resource.

All professional staff attends on-going Professional Education through conferences, seminars, and course work, to further develop their skills and to keep their professional knowledge current and fresh.
Jan, Barb, and Carrie are highly skilled professionals. They bring to our practice years of experience in other Hematology/Oncology related fields. Barb, and Carrie have all worked with Hospices, and have extensive experience with Palliative Care and Pain Management. Barb and Jan have a 20-year history in Hospital Infusion Care, and Jan spent several years working in Radiology. |
Translation/Medical Assistant
Maria works with RN, Jan, as a Translator and Medical Assistant in our Patient Room Area. They take and record patient’s vital signs, note any complaints or new symptoms for the doctor, and help the patient prepare for the physician’s examination. They are available to patients by phone and frequently answer questions and order prescription refills for patients. Maria also translates for our Spanish-speaking patients both in doctor visits and as needed in the chemotherapy suite. Maria comes to us from a local translation service. She is a great favorite of patients, and is always willing to help out wherever an extra set of hands is needed. You may hear her voice when you call our office seeking patient assistance

Office Manager

Carleta is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the practice. She schedules and supervises staff, assists patients with billing questions, codes for billing, orders medical and office supplies, and ensures that all of the patients’ and the physicians’ expectations are met. She also deals directly with our management company, okaying payments to vendors, and overseeing payroll and insurance issues. She is the heart of our practice and is our Office Goddess! |

| When you first enter the Washington Hematology-Oncology office, you will be greeted by one of four smiling faces! These four ladies keep the office humming by answering/making over a hundred calls per day, preparing office charts, scheduling appointments, and making certain that the patients’ complete medical records are up to date and are available to the clinicians. Janet and Shannon act as in-take and check-out receptionists, while Allison and Connie focus mainly on Medical Records. However, they all are glad to jump in and help whenever extra help is needed in either area. These dedicated and experienced women keep our office running very smoothly. |
Laboratory Staff
Washington Hematology-Oncology has partnered with Interpath Laboratory to maintain an extremely sophisticated laboratory located right on the office premises. Patients labs are drawn either the day prior to or the day of their office or chemotherapy visit. Test results are made available immediately, for physician and nursing staff. The lab is staffed by a medical laboratory technician and a gentle and caring phlebotomist.
Transcription
Gloria |
Gloria transcribes all dictation with remarkable speed and accuracy. Gloria’s skills as a transcriptionist ensure that information about a patient is communicated to his or her other physician(s) within 36 hours of a visit with one of our doctors or PA. All of Gloria’s transcription is entered into an electronic medical record called ChartConnect. This enables any member of the patient’s treatment team to immediately access important clinical information via computer.She is assisted, on a part-time basis, by Shonda. Shonda has cheerfully aided Gloria in Transcription, as our practice has grown to its present size! |
