Washington Hematology Oncology Specialists
  Medical Collaborations

Dr. Brady collaborates with many medical organizations and practices. They are members of the Southwest Oncology Group and Puget Sound Oncology Group, organizations which sponsor and oversee clinical trials. Clinical trials are responsible for the amazing advances in cancer treatment and prevention which have been made in the past twenty years. They provide an opportunity for a patient not only to help him/herself but also to contribute to medical research which will be invaluable to our children and our children’s children. Patients who meet specific criteria are informed about available clinical trials, thoroughly informed about the protocols, and offered the opportunity to participate. The patient’s decision always is respected by the physician and the clinical team.

Often patients who are seeing hematologists or oncologists at the major Seattle medical centers also are treated by Dr. Brady in a collaborative arrangement. They also refer patients to Seattle for second opinions or highly specialized care. They have “shared” patients with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Swedish Medical Center, Virginia Mason Medical Center, Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, and the University of Washington hematology/oncology programs. Patients who need radiation therapy are referred to North Star Lodge Cancer Care Center in Yakima where they receive treatment with state-of-the-art equipment.

Many local family practice physicians, surgeons, and other specialists have referred patients to Dr. Brady. They keep in frequent and close communication with the referring physician and others involved with the patient so that continuity of care is ensured.

Finally, Dr. Brady knows that a diagnosis of cancer affects the whole family. Family members are welcome to accompany the patient to his/her appointments and to ask questions of the doctor and the staff.

Clinical Trials

The treatment team at Washington Hematology-Oncology conducts a number of clinical trials in which qualified patients may participate, if they so choose. Clinical trials test new combinations of already-approved drugs, as well as new techniques, approaches, and medications. They not only are a vital source of information about treatment results; they can be of great value to the individuals who participate in them. Dr. Brady encourages patients to ask as many questions as they wish about clinical trials. Both physicians believe that clinical trials are responsible for the major breakthroughs in cancer treatment which have occurred in the past twenty years.
